Launched in 2017, Concept No. 1 is inspired by surreal art. “Macallan Concept Number 1” is a new annual limited series whiskey full of extraordinary imagination and subverting tradition. The winemaker explores innovative maturation methods, breaking the traditional practice of first aging whiskey in bourbon barrels. Instead, the original wine is first matured in Spanish sherry oak barrels, and then transferred to American bourbon barrels for the same period of time to continue maturing in order to blend the spicy aroma brought by sherry barrels with the sweet and creamy aroma imparted by bourbon barrels. The single malt whiskey produced is golden in color, with aromas of citrus and ginger, and a moderately sweet finish. The Macallan Concept Number 1 has a unique flavor that embodies the adventurous spirit of bold innovation. It also reflects the brand’s centuries-old brewing technology and demonstrates its undying passion for whiskey.
